...on the lighter side...

Got a new dog this week.  I haven't had a dog in the last few years and figured it was time to have another one to run around with.

I took him off the hands of some folks who were no longer able to keep him and, since I'd had Collies in the past, I knew he'd be a good fit around the homestead and, keep the kids herded in the yard.
Normally, I'd expect that there would be the usual refractory period where the dog take a bit of time to get used to the new surroundings and, fitting in.
Nope, a week later and, ol' dog acts like he's always been here and belonged here....so we both lucked out.

I have a good ol dog who likes to follow me around the yard and keep an eye on things and, dawg gets to be a Collie and herd barnyard animals around just like his instincts have always told him to do but, never had the chance.
We got him started by herding the geese from the back pasture into their pen and, he picked it up as if he'd been doing it daily for years...which is pretty cool for a dog that had never even seen a goose before.
When I'm comfortable with his goose herding skills, I'll try him out on the sheep and cattle.

The last Collie I had, would try to herd my kids around the yard when they were younger...it's just something they do...maintain order!
I'd almost forgotten how nice it is to have a good dog around the house.

Beautiful dog Sepp. Please don't tell me you have a son named Timmy, I might just piss myself.

Happy Veterans Day buddy. Thank you for defending my Freedoms.

Nahh, no Timmy here but, as with every other Collie I've had, the Lassie remarks are never a surprise.
I used to have a Dane and everyone asked if it was Marmaduke, my Doberman was a part of the Doberman gang and, my friend's beagles were always called "Snoopy" by kids.

...now there aren't any kids who know who Lassie is anymore...so it's the over 30 crowd doing it!

Today, Dawg got tested on sheep and cattle...for the FIRST time in his entire life, he got to do what Collies are meant to do.

With ZERO prior training, this dog scooped my flock of sheep and, my cows out of their pen in the barn and, herded them into the pasture like a pro...as if he'd been doing it for years!
He's lived his last 7 years as a pretty yard orniment someplace in suburbia...today his inner pup came out and he for the first time was allowed to BE the dog he was bred to be!
I found the right dog that needed the right house.
It can't get better than that!

Sounds like a lucky dog matched with a lucky family.

Indeed Johnny O. We all got pretty lucky this time.
He's an older dog and, not too many folks are interested in something that isn't tiny, cute and, able to grow with their kids.

This ol dog still has some pup left in him and it would have been a shame to see such a fine animal put down for a lack of other options.
So, we got a dog thats already housebroken, likes to play and learn stuff, barks like a madman at anyone pulling into the driveway and, fits in perfectly with our scenery.
